Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa will contest the upcoming general elections from the Kurunegala District just like he did at previous polls, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Chairman Professor G.L. Peiris said yesterday.
Addressing a news briefing held at the party headquarters in Battaramulla, he said there was no truth in reports that stated the premier would contest the elections from Gampaha in the future.
“Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa contested the previous general elections from Kurunegala amid many obstacles. The then UNP Government exerted pressure in its attempt to prevent such a move but he won the elections from Kurunegala. Mr. Rajapaksa will not abandon the people of Kurunegala who voted him to Parliament. He will contest only from Kurunegala,” Prof.
Peiris said.
