Two close associates, of notorious drug kingpin ‘Makandure Madush’ and large-scale heroin trafficker Sriyani Hemamala alias Kudu Hemamala, were arrested in two separate raids in Keselwatta and Rajagiriya.
One of the suspects known to be a resident of Mirania Street in Colombo 12 had 2.3 grams of heroin in his possession at the time of his arrest.
Madush and several Sri Lakans including underworld criminals identified as Keselwatte Dinuka and Kanjipani Imran were arrested, at a party thrown by Madush at a five star hotel in Dubai, during a joint raid carried out by the Dubai law enforcement authorities on February 4, 2019.
Madush was later deported to Sri Lanka and was taken into custody by the CID. Investigation revealed that the arrested suspect was also an attendee at the Madush party.
Meanwhile, an associate of large-scale heroin trafficker Sriyani Hemamala alias Kudu Hemamala, was arrested by the STF at a house at Kalapaluwa in Rajagiriya yesterday.
The STF recovered two motorcycles with fake number plates and an unregistered motorcycle during the search of the house.
The 32-year-old suspect who is a resident of Rajagiriya was handed over to the Welikada Police along with the motorcycles to determine whether they were used for drug trafficking or any other illegal activity.
