We cannot ban this housemaid business no matter how seriously these poor women are affected, as this gives a huge revenue, contributing to our economy. So who cares??

dear Ish, this is not my view point, but presumptions based on action taken by relevant authorities so far!!

Unlike our Embassy Staff, the Phillipines Embassies in the Middle east region and their Government take care of the welfare of their citizens to the utmost. They are very strict and our Embasy staff more interssted in getting visas.

Those Arabs will trot out the excuse that the maid burnt herself after leaving their airport.

Our embassies in the middle east should be calling each and every domestic labourer once a month to make sure they are very safe and paid properly, if they are not, a case should be filed immediately, learn it from the philipinos.

This is a serious issue should be addressed immediately. Some time ago President himself gave a deadline to stop sending maids overseas, perhaps a election promise he might never remember again now with endless time he could remain in power.

We should STOP sending our maids to the middle east and show their way to improve their life in a better position. Those Arabs never learn the lessons at all even all the world teach them what is humanity and how to respect.

After seeing so many cases, I don't think they should be allowed to go overseas, now a days they are paid very well in domestic work in Sri Lanka even upto rs10000 a month nett, food and accomodation provided by employer.Government should think over it and the consequences.

A lot of people care, but cannot do anything about it, beyond making sarcastic and bitter comments on sites such as this one.

I see your frustration. Leaders dont care. They care about the money that these poor souls send.
These people are the nastiest
