A group of police officers of Bandaragama Police who were conducting a cannabis raid at Atulugama came under attack by a group of residents this morning.
Police said two Sub Inspectors and two women police officers were injured when they were attacked during the tense situation.
The officers raided a house at Mawara, Atulugama following a tip off that cannabis were being cultivated in the garden.
Police said a group of residents including four women had obstructed the police and assaulted them when they attempted to arrest a suspect.
The injured officers were admitted to the Bandaragama Hospital and the police arrested four suspects including three women for obstructing the police and over the assault.
Additional police teams were also deployed to under control the situation.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
