Step had been taken to arrange charter flights to fly out tourists stranded in the country, to get to their home countries, Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority said.
They said, according to immigration authorities, there are approximately 18,093 international tourists in the country.
Sri Lanka Tourism is closely working with the Foreign Ministry and respective embassies and high commissions to arrange necessary facilities.
“Though arrivals are suspended into the country, all departures are supported and Srilankan Airlines operates departure flights daily to UK, Melbourne and Narita,” the authority said.
Tourism Development Authority said it would facilitate any country to fly out their nationals back to their home country via charter flights on request.
They also request service provider in the hospitality industry currently hosting international tourists, to support tourists with airport transportation.
“Due to the current curfew in the country, Acting Inspector General of Police has assured that the air ticket could be used in lieu of a curfew pass for the passengers as well as the vehicle and driver,” the authority said.
Tourists, who are unable to find transport to get to the airport, are requested to contact the nearest Police Station or Sri Lanka Tourism 24/7 hotline on 1912.

Other countries don’t have curfew. So Sri Lankans stranded in other countries still live better. At most other countries will send them to prison for visa overstay. These prisons got one room per inmate , so you can’t get covid in prisons. If you come to Sri Lanka you will be sent to quarantine centers as a big group with unknown people
