The government has no plans whatsoever to sell the Mattala Airport (MRIA) to anyone, Industrial Export, Investment Promotion, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Prasanna Ranatunga today said.
Addressing a news briefing in Udugampola today, the minister said there was no truth in the reports which suggested otherwise. He said a statement he had made over streamlining the Mattala Airport management has been misinterpreted and being circulated on social media.
“There is no basis in the reports circulating on social media which have been concocted by defeated political elements to embarrass the government. The incumbent government has no streak for alienating national assets,” he said.
He said the new government adopts the policy of 'walk the talk', unlike the previous Yahapalana Government which said one thing and did another.
“The government has paid attention to developing the Mattala Airport as a passenger and as well as a cargo airport. Our objective is to make the airport an active one as soon as possible,” Minister Ranatunga said. (Pushpakumara Mallawaarachchi)

No need to sell. Look at the initial project feasibility study and see where it has gone wrong and ensure it operates bringing in revenue sufficient to repay the loan. About 7 years have passed since commissioning and it deteriorates with time .
