Former State Minister of Health MP Faizal Cassim said that it had come to light that Muslim mothers had been subjected to sterilisation at the Castle Hospital, Colombo.

He further said they would be bringing this information to the attention of the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) and also to parliament.

These views were expressed at the opening ceremony of “Ran Mawatha” in the Nintavur area Ampara last week.

"The doctors that performed these sterilisations had done so after pointing out that the health of these women were at risk as their bodies were weak after delivering their third child. This aspect was also discussed with several gynaecologists recently.

I discussed the matter with several Muslim MPs in Parliament as well. We will disclose more details of our findings soon," MP Cassim said.

"Muslims have to face many problems like this. We have to protect pregnant Muslim women today," he said.

The charges brought against Dr. Shafi are baseless. If he undertook these kind of operations then the ten persons who helped him carry out these operations must also be arrested. The reason is because it is near impossible to carry out these operations alone," he added. (F. Aslam)

This is outrageous, justice by media is not justice, nor speculation . Make formal complaints to the relevant authorities, that includes Police and CID!!! All we see is speculations aiming at creating community unrest in order to gain political advantage at the cost of lives .

The doctors essentially “the prescribers of drugs” are an artificial creation by stupid Europeans. When Sri Lanka had the greatest civilisation in the past who looked after our health for thousand years,it was not the present day doctors.

Very good. Tit for tat accusations. Nothing proved yet. But irresponsible media wants to pass the judgement. Another point , it appears that Daily Mirror comments are posted by those employed by them . Public comments never published.
