Match-fixing allegations - Aluthgamage risks court action if proved wrong

Former sports minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage runs the risk of being be tried under the Prevention of Offences Relating to Sports Act if he the allegations he had made are found to be false with regard to the 2011 Cricket World Cup final, former sports minister Harin Fernando said today.

According to the Act any person making false allegations under Section 16, knowing the allegations to be false, commits an offence and shall, on conviction by a Magistrate, be liable to a fine not exceeding Rs.100,000 or a jail term not exceeding three years or both.

Mr. Aluthgamage's allegations that the cricket final was fixed, raised protests among others by some former MPs including government MP Namla Rajapaksa stressing the need to safeguard the reputation of Sri Lankan cricketers.

Meanwhile, UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam commenting on the matter said there was nothing unusual about such situation because ruling party politicians were known to enact dramas for political mileage. (Yohan Perera)

Mahindananda Aluthgamage needs not be investigated he must be sent to jail and pay the fine for humiliating our Cricket Heroes, and in a jailed jumpsuit make a apology to the entire nation, if not he will end up in parliament and take revenge with his bookie pal.

The biggest thing the cricket loving People in this country is to see that this guy is not elected to the Parliament from Kandy District , then the law. of the land should take appropriate action for the false allegations he has made regarding World Cup 2011 and brought disrepute to the great cricketers of the country and to Srilanka. These guys are not patriots. They must be in Jail for all the fraudulent things they have done
