A leading politician has deployed 17 additional secretaries for his official duties while his successors have had services of only five or six additional secretaries, as revealed.

These additional secretaries have been assigned to perform duties of supervision of several ministries and these officials are paid salaries, allowances and also provided with staff, fuel, communication and computer facilities and annual expenses of these offices are estimated at Rs. 50 million.

These excessive designations are only a waste of peoples’ money as any special duties are not performed by the extra staff as revealed at a discussion of several prominent politicians. (Dayaseeli Liyanage)
