Through an Extraordinary Gazette notification yesterday, the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) said coconut oil should not be mixed with any other oil subsidiaries.
The gazette notification was issued with the signature of the CAA Chairman (Retd.) Maj. Gen. Shantha Dissanayake.
Accordingly, coconut oil sold in bulk or in retail in bottles or packs or containers and the said edible Coconut oil shall not be blended with any other oil/oils, the gazette notification said.
The direction will come into effect from May 7. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

Meaningless Gazette Notification. Regulatory provisions are in place under the Food (Standard) Regulations of 1989 defining standards for Coconut Oil. (ii) Coconut oil shall not contain (a) more than 1.0 per cent of free fatty acids expressed as lauric acid, (b) more than 0.5 per cent moisture and 0.05 percent of insoluble matter (c) more than 1.5 per cent of unsapnifiable matter (d) and other oil or other fat, or mineral oil, and (e) any added colouring or flavouring substance.
