One female returnee, whose name is mentioned in the list of Sri Lankans arrived from Italy and absconding quarantine, has already left the country and therefore there's no need to look for her, the Police said today.

The Police yesterday released a list of photographs of several people arrived from Italy and absconding quarantine, with the intention of seeking public assistance to locate them.

However, the police said today that D. Shirani Peiris who is a resident of Pannipitita and arrived in the country on March 5 from Italy has left for France on March 8.

"Therefore, there's no need to look for her anymore and we regret any inconvenience caused," the police said. (Darshana Sanjeewa)

That's a bit concerning it took so long to come out with this. Especially as immigration would have details of those who enter and leave the country. its a matter of minutes to check up a database.

There is no need for Police to regret, Police has done its duty for the safety of all citizens of the country. The person in question should apologize the Police and all citizens of the country (for disappearing without notifying the authorities) and unnecessarily wasting the valuable time of the Police at this critical juncture

It is etiquette stupid. One says one regrets as being polite. Try not to get your knicks in a twist.

STRANGE HAPPENINGS Wednesday, 25 March 2020 08:13 AM

""Therefore, there's no need to look for her anymore" OK , But investigate - Who will now look after the 9 babies ! Another question - where has she now gone ? Nab the two adults who was in this infamous "group" and also find out where the babies are. The statement by the police - "we regret any inconvenience caused" is rather strange and makes one believe that there is a political hand behind this episode.

    BuffaloaCitizen Wednesday, 25 March 2020 08:47 AM

So how come she again passed through immigration without getting noticed?

The wonder of Asia Wednesday, 25 March 2020 08:56 AM

"therefore there's no need to look for her, the Police said today" AND "we regret any inconvenience caused," - These two statements by the Police only make one to infer that - as far as the Police are concerned that She is " Rather a "virtuous , pure, sinless" character, and it is a "open and closed" case. The woman to had left for Italy without a Visa and arrived here with 9 babies ! . An alert should have been sent to her present destination to hold her for questioning on this mysterious episode. Wonder what country she has left and who issued the present visa to travel. ? The whole episode along with the two mysterious males in the "group" of 9 babies stinks ! ! AND as usual will be a forgotten chapter.

"Female returnee in the list has already left" - NOT LEFT - but FLED - I suppose the Two males will follow AND Sri Lanka will be left with the 9 babies and the bath water !

A "LADY:" who is actually a CRIMINAL Wednesday, 25 March 2020 12:34 PM

Reference above comment - "Proper record keeping at immigration would have avoided embarrassment to said lady" - what record keeping ? And to call this criminal (who left initially without a visa to Italy ) a LADY ! , is rather far fetched.

Message to the French Embassy in Sri Lanka Wednesday, 25 March 2020 05:38 PM

French Embassy over here - lease alert your authorities of a person who has returned from Italy - landed in Sri Lanka - and taken off to your country in a matter of 2 days. She is probable corona carrier ! - wonder, as a matter of such importance. whether our Sri Lankan authorities took the initiative to have alert the French Authorities, IF NOT - then Sri Lanka is NOT playing its part at all.
