The Police Special Task Force (STF) arrested a former female councillor of the Colombo Municipal Council in Colombo 13 with a car assembled in Sri Lanka in violation of customs and related laws.
Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said that the 56-year old woman was arrested based on information received by the intelligence units of the Police Special Task Force.
Investigations revealed that the vehicle was assembled in Sri Lanka with spare parts brought down from oberseas violating customs regulations.
DIG Rohana said the woman did not posses any legal document to prove ownership to the vehicle.
The suspect was handed over to the Fore Shore Police to be produced before the Hulftsdorp Magistrate today (27).(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

How clever those people must be to assemble a car from spare parts brought from a foreign country. These are the brainy people a third world country like Sri Lanka needs to start an INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION. But we have uneducated policemen arresting these people because they have “broken” a law.

It maybe true that it's illegal.So police officers did the right thing However , we need to appreciate her technical know how. I wish if she could do this in commercial scale. This will create job opportunities and save huge amount of money annually spend on vehicle imports.
