The Education Ministry has informed heads of all schools in writing to abide by the Gazette notification issued under the Emergency law which prohibited dress and helmets preventing identification of a person.
It said that the attention of Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam was drawn to this matter after the confusion that prevailed in schools when teachers and other individuals entered schools premises wearing dresses and helmets preventing their identification.
Accordingly, entering school premises wearing Burqa, Niqab, Full Face, Modular and Off-road helmets has been banned while wearing of Chador, Hijab and other helmets has not been banned.
The Minister had instructed the Secretary to the ministry to send a special letter to all schools mentioning this in detail. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

Thank you Mr Kariyawasam for explaining this very clearly. This rule can be applied at public places including shops, offices, cinemas, play grounds as identity of the person is mandatory.

All children should have the same uniform. In France when you enter school you remove your head scarf. In side the school premises every one is equal.

as teacher, female should wear saree to school and not other dress to keep decent dress code. If not female start wearing as they wish what will happen and will be there a discipline?? So there should be a dress code for all teacher in Sri Lankan school private or government or international.

It is pity, sri lankan govt. have no backbone to ban the burqa/niqab/hijab dress etc. which the muslim religious clergy and politician have admitted not compulsory in quran or islam.

This is good and should be displayed in everywhere in order to prevent unwanted issues. Also it should be banned permanently under new law for the safety of the people.
