China donates Rs.16mn worth medical supplies to CMC

Medical supplies worth of over Rs.16 million have been donated by the People's Government of Beijing Municipality to the Colombo Municipal Council, including PPEs, ventilator and PCR test kits.

The first batch of urgently needed donation arrived at Bandaranaike International Airport from Beijing via Qatar today and the remaining two batches will arrive on December 14 and 17.

Responding to a request by Colombo Mayor Rosy Senanayake in November, Mayor of Beijing Chen Jining said that the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic has been hitting Sri Lanka, and the city of Colombo is also facing severe challenges in its prevention and control.

"Beijing as a friend of Colombo city, our thoughts are with you in these trying times. Hereby, on behalf of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, I would like to extend our most sincere sympathy and support to you and the people of Colombo. I am confident that with our joint efforts, we will prevail eventually. Our friendship will also be brought to a new level. I hope that Colombo will conquer the pandemic at an early date. Wish the people of Colombo happiness and good health," Mr. Jining said.

Meanwhile, other Chinese cities such as Shanghai, Chengdu and Taipei are also planning to extend their support to Colombo to overcome the current difficulties in COVID-19.

Sweettalking. It would be very funny if it was not this serious. Beijing a friend of Colombo. Not something to be proud of. China is one of the most cruel dictatorships in the world. Sri Lanka is getting there soon too.

China is the only country that has consistently helped Sri Lanka for the last fifty years. But China has many enemies in the form of India and the Western Countries. So these countries are working flat out to undermine China in the eyes of Sri Lankans. We should never allow this to happen.
