Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Professor Charitha Herath has been elected as the Chairman of the Committee On Public Enterprises (COPE) today.
His name was proposed by Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage and was seconded by Minister Jayantha Samaraweera.
The newly appointed members of the COPE as announced by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardane on September 11 are Ministers Mahinda Amaraweera, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Rohitha Abeygunawardane, Susil Premajayantha, Jayantha Samaraweera, Dilum Amunugama, Indika Anuruddha Herath, Sarath Weerasekara, D. V. Chanaka, Nalaka Godahewa, Ajith Nivard Cabraal, MPs Rauff Hakeem, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Jagath Pushpakumara, Eran Wickramaratne, Ranjan Ramanayake, Nalin Bandara, S.M. Marikkar, Premnath C. Dolawatte, Charitha Herath and Shanakiya Rajaputhran Rasamanickam. (By Ajith Siriwardane and Yohan Perera)

Lets see if Charitha can keep up or exceed the standard set by Handunnetti! A big shoe to step into. Also will there be any point for COPE to function if 20A is approved as gazetted.
