A cat that had a heroin packet tied around its neck, was discovered by the prison officers at the Colombo Magazine Prison premises today.
Prisons Department Commissioner (Administration) and Spokesperson Chandana Ekanayake said two packets of heroin weighing 1g and 2 mg were found in a small bag along with two sim cards and a memory chip inside.
"The cat was found by an intelligence officer, who was at the entrance gate of the prison," he said.
The spokesman said the heroin packets had been handed over to the Borella Police and Prison Department is conducting a further inquiry into the incident. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
