The driver who drove the car very dangerously on the Southern Expressway (E-01), was remanded till April 22, the police spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.
He was arrested by the Expressway traffic police division yesterday and produced before the Panadura Magistrate court.
"The other four who were travelling in the car seated on the sedan's door have been identified and their names and addresses were traced. A special police team has been deployed to apprehend them," the spokesman said.
He said the registered owner of the vehicle came to the Colombo police traffic division yesterday and his statement was recorded.
According to his statement, the car was sold to another person, however, the lawful transfer of ownership of the vehicle was not done. Therefore the owner of the car would be charged by the Expressway police division, DIG Ajith Rohana said.
However, the present owner was not summoned to any police station, nevertheless, he would be asked to present in a police station to record his statement in due course, the Spokesman added.
The video bore evidence that the four persons on board the sedan, had lowered the shutters and seated on the doors facing each other from both sides of the vehicle. Their unruly and menacing behaviour had caused plenty of disturbance and distraction to the fellow motorists who were driving along on the expressway. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
