Attendees of a Jaffna mass urged to contact authorities after pastor tested positive

Provincial health authorities and the Northern Province Governor's Office are attempting to contact the attendees of a mass held in Jaffna after the pastor who conducted the mass has tested positive for COVID-19. The mass has been conducted at the Philadelphia Church in Ariyalai, Jaffna on March 15 by the pastor who arrived in the country from Switzerland.

Following the mass, the pastor had returned to Switzerland where had tested positive for the virus. Almost 300 people have attended the mass according to the heatlh authorities. The Northern Province Director of Health Services Dr. A. Ketheeswaran said two attendees were admitted to the Jaffna Hospital on suspicions of contracting the virus. Dr. Ketheeswaran urged the attendees to contact the health officials via 021 221 7278 and remain in self-quarantine.

    There are some unanswered questions, 1. How the pastor by pass the security when all are on high alert of foreigners. 2. We heard that pastor was sick during the mass, then why the organizers not get alerted especially during every one advised for social distancing and self isolation. 3. It was the days when government declared against mass gathering, then how they allowed to do so. 4. Was the building sterilized. ( that building needed to be cleaned for virus and can be used for anti virus activities as it is lies outskirt of Jaffna town and away from populated area

    Very mysterious. 1. How did this 'pastor' enter the Country and how did he go back?. Was his mission to just officiate at this mass ? A 300 strong congregation assembled at one place must have caught the security napping or turning a blind eye in return for 'goodies'. Please find answers for these.
