Why do people go for rebound relationships? Because they want to fill the gap of not having their ex around for comfort and companionship. Your number one confidante is taken away from you and to top it all off he/she doesn’t want to be friends with you eithe; maybe not in a harsh way but since it’s his/her way of trying to get over the relationship. But, in any case, you'd feel a little better when you can keep in touch with him/her.

So at first you keep looking at the phone waiting for a call from your ex. You don’t want to get back together but at least to have a normal conversation to assure yourself that things are normal. You hear the phone ringing or a beep of a message, you fumble at the phone and no, it was all in your mind. You almost call, choosing the name still fresh in the call log. You feel like throwing your phone when you get messages from every Tom, Dick and Harry and not a single ‘Are you ok?’ from that one person.

So your ex doesn’t want to keep in touch with you after a bitter break-up. You are probably removed from his/her Facebook page since he/she doesn’t want any reminders, but you are the kind to go through all the pictures of you two together; these manage to creep a small smile on to your face, in the least.

If it was a very emotional relationship, it might be painful and awkward when you are friends and move on to seeing other people, hence some may feel they shouldn’t be friends with their exes. Being friends after a relationship means that they are both aware of each other’s life after the break-up. One may move on faster or appear so than the other and that would antagonize the other because they seem to be happier.

There is no hard and fast rule that you cannot be friends with exes. Anything is possible and it will be great if you can have a healthy friendship with your ex because this was a person that once meant a lot to you.

Well if she doesn’t want to be your friend then she really doesn’t have to. You are her ex and there is nothing in the rule book saying that you have to be friends with your ex. If she wants to be friends with you then she can try later and if you are still willing then maybe you guys can be friends.

If you were the one who dumped him/her, they would feel odd being friends with you.
Respect his decision. You do not have to agree with it but do not further aggravate him by pressing the issue.
Because in his mind he still thinks you are his girlfriend so he can’t just start treating you like a friend. It may take a while to be friends because he still wants to be with you and loves you.
If you broke up, then why do you want to stay friends now?
What is done is done. Being friends will make it harder to get over your feelings for that person.
