The hot dog people have done it again. Besides giving the humble hot dog a makeover and creating a buzz about their wondrous 10 -inch delights, which also includes a vegetarian option; Star Dogs has brought their tasty treats right to your doorstep. What’s more their new outlet, situated in the heart of Mount Lavinia offers you the pleasure of savouring your favourite hot dog in absolute comfort.
CEO of Star Dogs Akila Ganegoda who sat down with DM Life for a casual chat, didn’t waste a minute detailing the latest developments. “We started the very first fully-fledged dine in outlet at Mount Lavinia about six months ago. So far the response has been good, hot dog fans have been thronging to the place to try out our offerings. We’ve even got regulars who come everyday for a bit of their favourite hot dog. The Star Dog delivery service began a month ago and we now deliver to Colombo and its suburbs for a nominal delivery charge of 100 rupees. We’ve also planned to expand our reach by establishing hot dog stations at Liberty Plaza and Moratuwa.”
Apart from their standard menu which includes yummy varieties of hot dogs that come in a mishmash of local and international flavours to suit your mood, Star Dogs has also introduced a tempting lineup of BBQ items which include juicy BBQ hot wings, BBQ whole leg, BBQ kebab, delicious burgers and larger than life grilled open hot dogs.
I tried my luck with the Star Dog, grilled open hot dog where the French fries were dripping with BBQ sauce. As yummy as it tasted I couldn’t wipe my plate clean, and according to Akila many of his customers find it impossible to do so.
Akila enthusiastically cues me on exciting events planned at Star Dogs. ‘We are planning on starting an exciting challenge and invite hot dog fans to take part in it. It’s going to be fun. All you have to do is eat six hot chili hot dogs within 20 minutes and stay without drinking water for another 10 minutes. Anyone who is successful in doing so will be in our Star Dog hall of fame, and win lots of giveaways.”
Akila and his team at Star Dogs are also keen to support the community through an innovative Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project. “We want to do our bit to support society and in keeping with the whole ‘hot dog’ concept, we thought it would be ideal if we support street pooches and animal shelters. We’ve already printed T- shirts and mugs which will be available at the Mount Lavinia outlet. The proceeds from the sales will be used to help these animals.”
