The Son-in-law of Presidential Candidate General Sarath Fonseka, Danuna Tillekaratne, has been asked to appear before the CID during the course of the day tomorrow, sources close to General Sarath Fonseka told Daily Mirror online.

The government has accused its main rival at the presidential elections of widespread corruption during the war against the LTTE. Senior government ministers and coalition partners say General Sarath Fonseka's family has earned money through commissions for weapons procurements.

The government has claimed that it has in it's possession all the documents to prove that General Fonseka's son-in-law has profited from the procurements.

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 07:53 PM

Welcome to 'Sri-babwe'! A land like no other!

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 07:57 PM

    Keta weda!

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 08:24 PM

Trying to steal our right to elect someone whom we want?

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 08:44 PM

SICK and TIRED of this abuse of power!!! So many true culprits walking, while all of the General's supporters, are being questioned and abused, over nothing!

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 08:50 PM

Every such act, moves another lot of voters, to vote against the current leadership!

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 08:57 PM

'OBSERVER': Please try not to discourage the people who want to contribute something in English, or even 'Singlish.' I too, have noticed that some, make glaring mistakes, (including me) - we are not perfect! This is the language we learnt from school, during only 45 minutes, per day! Please excuse us sir, for making such mistakes. We were not privileged to perfect our English, like others - we were both poor and underprivileged, and we still strugggle to contribute something to the daily papers, on current issues.

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 09:22 PM

You are correct, Mr. Gunatilake. People want us to be perfect in English, but, if you read the news items on the Daily Mirror, carefully, you will find lots of grammatical errors!

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 09:34 PM

I agree with Mr. Gunatilaka. Thank you for standing-up for the underprivileged and ignored, of this land! 'Bohoma sthoothee'!

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 09:35 PM

Quite so, Mr. Gunatilake. I am with you! It's pathetic, most times, to see these errors. I have felt, many a time, to say so myself, but then, who am I to do so? This is probably the only way to voice a little opinion, for most readers. Can't expect perfect English from them, for this! All the same, someone MUST see to it that not only the standard of English, but also Sinhala, improves. It's equally bad or worse, thanks mostly to mushroom radio & tv stations!

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 11:10 PM

My opinion is that the readers should get their facts together, when using the public media to express their thoughts. It is not a big issue, if their English language is not perfect. I am very thankful that the Daily Mirror has given us this opportunity, but we, the readers, should not take advantage of it to spread rumors, use indecent language or make stories up. We can use this opportunity to educate each other, even in a small way. Let us do something useful, for a change!

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 11:46 PM

Well, you are not being patriotic! English is not our 'mother-tongue.' So, can you blame us for it?

    Wednesday, 20 January 2010 12:12 AM

Government by the People - NOT for the people, but for the 'family service,' only!

    Wednesday, 20 January 2010 07:02 AM

very good question, why Govt didn't tell this earlier, they also get together and did this, now slowly putting this to SF

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 07:52 PM

    BLATANT abuse of power!

    Wednesday, 20 January 2010 07:56 AM

Why was such a corrupt army general was decorated with numerous medals and national titles and praised to the hilt and prompted as CDS This proves what an efficient government we have.

    Wednesday, 20 January 2010 08:08 AM

Why not they arrest $478B Team first.

    Wednesday, 20 January 2010 08:10 AM

Todays news Dr Mervin says he has $40m to bet. Why not arrest him and ask him how did he earn that money?

    Wednesday, 20 January 2010 08:20 AM

This is ridiculous. Inocent people are in front of CID. All the culprits are having luxury lives. God will give the punishment after 27th. wait and see.

    Wednesday, 20 January 2010 08:22 AM

Who is this colonial big shot?

    Wednesday, 20 January 2010 08:32 AM

    That's if SF comes in!

    Wednesday, 20 January 2010 08:35 AM

why so late. There is no evidence. Nothing can stop the victory of Sarath Fonseka in becoming the next President of Sri Lanka

    Wednesday, 20 January 2010 10:41 AM

CID should investigate and verdict given before the 25 th for the people to have a free mind to vote ... and for whom.

This rather a five star 'Demo - Crazy' by the people in power., specilized in this stories before an election.

    Wednesday, 20 January 2010 11:22 AM

That time..He will be in USA.

    Wednesday, 20 January 2010 11:36 AM

Once SF comes to power he'll arrest MR's son. This will be the game in SL. NO BODY is interested in development of the country: Good Luck to SL.

    Wednesday, 20 January 2010 05:31 PM

The 'fireworks display' is on - so keep watching! Only a few more days left, to dig-out more 'corrupt' 'arms' deals.

    Wednesday, 20 January 2010 06:56 PM

"Observer," that's a little harsh, isn't it? Asking not to post useless comments, is one thing. But, the accuracy of the language?

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 04:37 PM

The 'witch-hunt of the desperados' continues: let us see how long they can last?

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 03:08 PM

he he “I call on the international community to look into this matter and the manner in which they are hindering democracy,” SF is calling his friends ;-)

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 03:10 PM

you are being tested for action of demoralization by a number of higher standard techniques till 26.

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 03:10 PM

On 27th morning Fonseka will have to appear before CID !.

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 03:23 PM

Why doesnt the CID just take Fonseka in as well and we can declare MR the winner.End of story.
    This is now becoming ridiculous.

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 03:25 PM

Sarath Wimalasuriya, After 27th CID comes under SF and `Maha Raja` at home.

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 03:26 PM

Dirty tactics wont harm SF's campaign, I am sure after 27th, there would be plenty of people in the government ranks would have to appear before CID,... that's for sure

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 03:29 PM

All the allegation appeared after the election call???

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 03:29 PM

I cant even imagine how mahinda and family going to face the consequences after 27th.

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 03:30 PM

Thugs need thwarted. What to do?

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 03:34 PM

You already called international community given evidence for war crimes. Now you are calling them to come and help you. You have to learn more about international politics sir.

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 03:40 PM

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 03:42 PM

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 03:02 PM

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 04:55 PM

Last 'thurumpuwa' they play, before going home!

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 05:13 PM

How come they did not investigate this, right after the war?

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 05:24 PM

Why did they wait so long, if they had evidence?

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 05:25 PM

This is a prelude to arresting SF, before the 26th!

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 05:29 PM

Err ... just because you have a PC with a keyboard and access to the internet, please don't contribute gibberish, to these blogs. Learn the English language, properly, before posting comments!

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 05:37 PM

For how long, are they going to 'sling mud' like this?

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 05:42 PM

There is no limit to this abuse of power - just imagine the type of justice any ordinary person could expect to receive. This election, will surely decide the future of SL!

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 05:52 PM

What about the thugs? I suppose that one has to wait till after the election, to get after them!

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 05:57 PM

Even the maximum effort, by the rulers, cannot stop SF's win!

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 06:07 PM

Last few hours of the 'crazy dance' by the thugs, goons and fraudsters. SF is sure to come-out, the clear winner!

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 06:21 PM

(Gilenakota thuththiri Gahaka hari ellennai balanne.) Doing everything possible, to avoid the inevitable!

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 07:10 PM
