Zeid continues to underscore ‘hybrid court’

United Nations High commissioner for Human Rights, Zeid al-Hussein told the 34th regular session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva today that they continue to underscore the concept of hybrid court to Sri Lanka to utilize an accountability mechanism.

Following the resolution debate of the member countries on Sri Lanka, the High Commissioner said the points made in the report of the Office of the High commissioner for Human Rights deserve further consideration by the Sri Lankan government.

The participation of foreign judges is indispensable for a reconciliation. A judgment of local judges, however good and honest they may be, is always regarded as biased by a part of the population. Also, it is a sign of lack of intelligence to accuse other states of war crimes as an excuse for own human rights violations. It is not possible to offset injustice against injustice.

It is unfortunate that whilst one part of the SL population ( which the UN seems to favour) would like foreign judges another part of the population ( in this case the majority) would be suspicious of foreign judges. How could one assume that foreign judges would be impartialA serious dichotomy. via DM Android App

Commissioner can not be blamed instead should be complimented on his unbiased stance .If the government needs time to sort out the allegations , the government and its actions and the progressive efforts should be watched out whether they are genuine or eyewash as usual.

Very simple answer, we already know the quality and incompetency of local justice system, the incidents are too too many to mention here. Therefore it is obvious that foreign judges will certainly be impartial, of course they may not agree if you want a criminal to be declassified as not a criminal.

Why not we accept this Hybrid court when we are unable to finish so many cases at FCID and Bribery Commission cases. When these are pending so long how can we cope up with huge HR case of UN.
