Former president Mahinda Rajapaksa today tweeted that he would make his move to regain power when the people were ready and he believed that it would be very soon.
However, he said it was time for Sri Lanka’s future leaders to emerge and take the country forward.
He said this in a tweet when asked whether he would contest against President Maithripala Sirisena in the wake of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) proposing President Sirisena as party’s presidential candidate in 2020.
When asked whether he would support President Sirisena by being a SLFP patron in the event the President deciding to contest, Mr. Rajapaksa said his decision would be based on the party decision at the proper time.
Explaining his strategy for the local government elections, he said he would be ready with a powerful political force representing the people’s will.
