The National Carrier SriLankan airlines is likely to break-even in three years,State Enterprise and Kandy Development Minister Lakshman Kiriella said during a visit to the SriLankan airlines head office yesterday.
“I have advised the new management to see that the airline's income and expenditure is on an even keel within the next three years,” he said. “People in this country have begun to focus on the national carrier and I wish to state that the government has no intention of closing down the airline. Ventures such as this should continue to serve the people."
He said the government was no longer in a position to allocate funds to boost loss-making ventures such as SriLankan on which the government spends some Rs.465 billion annually. (Yohan Perera)

Go on knees and request 'Emirates' to manage again. Work with Emirates to rid corruptions and wastes, then you will see results. Overnight the new management cannot change the culture of our National Carrier trade unions; they are the barriers. If an effective and sincere approach is not applied, expect break-down and break-even is just a dream.

Is Emirates managed by aliens? If they can do we can certainly do.

First you appoint some buffoons for 3 years and ruined the earlier business plan that would've made a profit if it was run fully. Now y ou talk of reducing revenue and turning the airline around. Utter crap from a bunch of curupt politicians. Just find a right businessman to rin it without interference then you will see the difference

Is the minister suggesting that, all these days the Srilankan management was unaware of the concept of break even point?
Arnold Saturday, 16 June 2018 03:42 PM
I am sure what he meant was breaking it into 2 even pieces. Sri Lankan has no hope, unless it is run like a business and not like the poodle of politicians.
Jmaes ingram Saturday, 16 June 2018 04:10 PM
We are sure you will break it any ways.
Unchikun Saturday, 16 June 2018 04:20 PM
You mean breakdown?
Vila Saturday, 16 June 2018 05:14 PM
It's already in pieces and nothing to break If they want even pieces, they will have to crush it, which they will do SOON.

Consider privatisation. Why should this be a burden on the public.

You will not see that day. You will be history in 2020.
Lucky Sunday, 17 June 2018 01:15 PM
Do not waste your time .with the present senior management thier wont be a break even
Ranjith Sunday, 17 June 2018 04:17 PM
Govt spend Rs 465 Billion annually and losses are catastrophic. Here we have a minister who is smart enough to say that the Airline will turn around in 3 years.Only if it lasts that long. What are the vested interests of the government to have a national career? Be realistic minister. talk to the minister incharge .
