Two brothers accused of murdering their brother-in-law were found guilty and sentenced to death by Kegalle High Court Judge Gamini Amarasekera.
The convicts are Lewke Kahagollalage Lional Wickremasinghe (52) and Lewke Kahagollalage Upali Dharamasena (48), of Kondenigama, Mawanella.
They had assaulted and stabbed the victim on August 17, 1999 following dispute between them at a grocer’s in Kondadeniya.
They had been indicted in the Kegalle High Court by the Attorney General after a non summery inquiry held at the Mawanella Magistrate’s Court. Police informed the judge that the second accused Upali Dharamasena was absconding.
The judge ordered the police to apprehend the second accused and produce him in court for the sentence to be pronounced on him.
