A 28 year old woman from Ihala Hundirapola in Pannala had been clubbed to death by her husband during an altercation on Thursday night, the police said.
The victim Shehani Jayanthika Salmali was a mother of three children. Her 37-year-old husband had been remanded in connection with a murder and released on bail recently.
Investigations revealed that the woman concerned had been living with her children at her parent’s house in Sirigampola in Wennappuwa while the suspect was in remand.
The Acting Magistrate for Kuliyapitya Kelum Hettige visited the scene and held the preliminary magisterial inquiry. He ordered police to refer the body to the JMO Kuliyapitiya hospital for the postmortem examination.
The suspect has been arrested by the Pannala Police. OIC IP Upul Ariyaratne, OIC Crime Investigation Branch IP Tilakaratne, WPS 6019 Lamahewa, Sergeants 53674 Kumaratunga, and 18063 Herath are conducting further investigations on the instructions of SSP Kuliyapitiya Division
