National Movement for Consumer Rights Protection (NMCRP) yesterday urged people to refrain from buying lunch packets from the canteens where prices had increased. Speaking to the Daily Mirror NMCRP President Ranjith Withanage said the canteen association had requested all canteens to increase the price of a lunch packet from yesterday. The NMCRP also reminded the public that most of the canteens operating around the country were not safe and hygienic for people to obtain food. Therefore, the NMCRP requested the public to have their
foods from ‘ Hela Bojun Hala’ stalls situated countrywide by the Ministry of Agriculture, he said.
“The consumers have issues with the quality and the standard of a lunch packet and the NMCRP request the responsible authorities to introduce certain criteria for a standard lunch packet,” Mr. Withanage said.
