Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka said that the UNP Leader should contest the upcoming presidential election and if that happens they would work towards his victory.
“ My opinion is that the UNP Leader should contest the Presidential elections. If he remains as the UNP leader he should definitely contest the election. If he contests we will work towards his victory,” Field Marshal Fonseka said.
When asked about speculation that Speaker Karu Jayasuriya or Minister Sajith Premadasa would be the Presidential candidate he said: “What I say is that the party leader should contest. If there is a leader in the party it is he who should contest at the elections.”
Commenting on speculation about a National Government he said: “We can have National Governments but we are not ready to have national governments with the people we had one with earlier. There are proposals like that for various people to get nominations. But we are not ready to fall into a well during the daytime, into which we fell in the night as well.”
If RW contests, we can guarantee that SLPP will WIN with flying colors.

Today I read a front page news item saying TNA won’t allow so and so to be our next president...it could be any party that can win the presidential election but our main parties shouldn’t rely too much on racially motivated smaller parties like TNA, Muslim Congress and Hela Urumaya etc....

Cake walk for opposition.

Oh, sure, democratically, RW can contest, but then, looking at his track record, that will be like shutting the main door of the UNP for ten years.

Come on, Field Marshal. Are you taking leave of your senses.
