President turns down EC’s request to resign

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has rejected the request made by Elections Commissioner, Mahinda Deshapriya, to resign from his portfolio from the Election Commission.

President Rajapaksa has informed the Election Commissioner by a letter that his service was essential because there was a parliamentary election coming up and that election rules and regulations had to be amended with his support. (Ranjan Kasthuri)

    correction : Mr.Mahinda Deshapriya is not the Elections Commissioner. He is Chairman of the Election commission.
