The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) had decided to remove the maximum retail price of Rs.75 for a coconut from today.
An extra-ordinary gazette notification in this regard had been issued today.
A senior official from the CAA said the maximum retail price was removed to create a competitive price at the market.
He also said if the traders used to sell coconuts at higher rates they would take action to reimpose the controlling price on coconuts. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

This is the cursed yamapalu governnment's fault. I can remember the time when we used to pay about 15 cents for a coconut including the outer husk, which when dry, we were able to use as fuel for the kitchen fires. Yamapalu deshapaaluwo do not want a maximum price to be set so that they could fleece the poor citizens
