President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has decided not to nominate Buddhist monks from the alliance including Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) for the forthcoming General Elections, Kandy District Parliamentarian Ananda Aluthgamage said.
Accordingly, Minister Keheliya Rambukwella at a meeting held between the President and Mahanayake Theras last Saturday (11), had informed that the SLPP has decided not to give candidature to the monks but, he could not give any statement regarding other parties.
Mahanayake of Asgiriya Chapter and Chief Monks of the Sangha Committee have informed the President not to give candidacy to Buddhist monks from the Alliance for the upcoming General Elections.
In addition, Mahanayakes have proposed to the President to give candidature only to suitable persons at the forthcoming election.
