Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga who responded to remarks that she would be expelled from the party said yesterday she informed President Maithripala Sirisena in writing that there was no reason for her to be removed from the party.
She told Daily Mirror that she wrote to the President as the incumbent chairman of Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) outlining that there was no reason for her to be expelled from the party. Although she is a patron of the SLFP, she is opposed to the decision taken by the party’s central committee to root for presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa. She arranged an alternative group of the SLFP to support presidential candidate of the UNP-led New Democratic Front (NDF) Sajith Premadasa. The alternative group has scheduled to have a summit today which will be addressed by the former President.
