Devotees around the country are celebrating the Thai Pongal festival today. A group of devotees gathered at the Sivan Kovil  Kovil in Kochchikade in Colombo and Sri Manikka Pillayar Kovil in Hatton to engage in religious rites in view of the Hindu festival, Pix by Gamini Bandara Illangathileke and Kithrisi de Mel

    Hindu festival?Isn't it a celebration of rice harvest? Someone can please explain if I'M wrong.Thank you DM for the colourful photos.

    The heartland of Hinduism in Sri Lanka is Jaffna and certainly it is not Kochchikade or Hatton. While it is great to show Thai Pongal in those areas I would have wished celebrations in Jaffna were also included in the pictures.

    There is no heart land or hinter land issue, what's the fuss. There are large numbers of Hindus in Trinco, Batticaloa and other parts of the country too.
