Trishaw driver arrested for transporting 14

A trishaw driver who transported 14 schoolchildren in the primary section of a Girls’ school in Hasalaka, in his trishaw was taken into custody by Hasalaka police.

The 32 year old driver was a resident of the area. Police said steps are being taken to file action against him for reckless driving, Police carried out the raid on information from the public that a trishaw was transporting 14 schoolchildren regardless of the danger posed by it.

A senior police official said the trishaw had no room to carry 14 children and that the driver had violated the regulations applicable to the transport of schoolchildren. (Bandula Godakumbura)
