The true hero, our beloved General Sarath Fonseka, who saved the nation from terrorism, remains imprisoned by the "armchair" heroes ... Travel restrictions are to prevent demonstrations by patriotic Sri Lankans?

ANOTHER WASTE OF TAX PAYERS MONEY AT WORK-USE THAT FOR HELPING THE NEEDY WHO SUFFERED IN THE WAR-OVER TO YOU MR.PRESIDENT

    Wednesday, 12 May 2010 11:11 AM

I can see most comments are written with the unbearable pain of loosing the maniac.most of them have used false names. The Fact remains that we crushed and wiped the LTTE menace off leaving behind the lesson for lunatics who wants a bogus EELAM. We will celebrate with pride the hidden agendas of western countries to destroy this country.Thank you Gota and Mahinda for being the Real leaders of our great nation.

shame -some fools idea to fool the people yearly

    Wednesday, 12 May 2010 03:26 PM

I agree with majority of the comments, its not the time to celeberate we should feel sorry and mourn the deaths of our brothers ,sisters, fathers, mothers and children of our country

    Wednesday, 12 May 2010 04:03 PM

What a joke ... to celebrate 'hero's day' without the hero ... like a birthday party without the 'birthday boy' ...

    Wednesday, 12 May 2010 04:16 PM

No point - 'Hero' is in jail!

    Wednesday, 12 May 2010 04:52 PM

Another waste of money that could be used to support families that were effected by the war including those of soldiers ...

    Wednesday, 12 May 2010 05:28 PM

We need to honour the dead - not have expensive parties!

    Wednesday, 12 May 2010 10:14 AM

tamils will think as tamils ...how much muslims and sihalese helped them..but they dont want to listen they only need separate state understand..... so its a waste... they (diaspora in west) are waiting again for the right opportunity to exploit innocent tamil youths in srilanka...

WHAT HERO 'S DAY DAY WITHOUT THE REAL HERO

    Thursday, 13 May 2010 03:28 AM

I paritially agree with you. As Sinhalese done there part at their best. But we didn't see any positive reaction or any other activity which shows that they too are ready live in Sri Lanka peacefully among other communities.

    Thursday, 13 May 2010 04:52 AM

Very sad, Sri Lankans are celebrating a fight ended between its own brothers and sisters. This Kind of day should have been celebrated, if SL won a war with another country. Agreed with Ran Banda's comments. This should have been the National Reconciliation Day ! And all citizens a like to be proud of a turning point of a nation.

    Thursday, 13 May 2010 05:34 AM

Its not for you and me and the cardboard heroes to celebrate THE REAL HEROES are the ARMED FORCES. let them celebrate but NOT IN GALLE FACE, let the money be spent on the rehabilitation of disabled members of the Armed forces and their families who lost their loved ones in this horrible conflict. These outward celebrations are ONLY to boost political egos and gain political mileage.

    Hilman

I feel its enough, eating kiribath because the increased price of the gas would make us eat pinbath in days ahead.

    Thursday, 13 May 2010 05:55 AM

Sri Lankans are great at celebrations. Instead of parades, why not work hard, sacrifice a bit and develop our country. Did we not have a big celebration parade just after the defeat of the LTTE, then yet another one in February. Can we not just honor our disabled war heros by making their lives better? rather than having grandiose parades every few months; which do nothing for the development of the country. Well said RAN BANDA & PERCY RANASINGHE.

    Thursday, 13 May 2010 07:46 AM

Why all these unnecessary expenses thamashas, anyone knows how many war hero widows, fatherless children and parents without their breadwinners suffering silently as they have no one to look after them, can we give this money to them at least they will have a nice one meal in the name of our fallen heroes.

    Thursday, 13 May 2010 08:15 AM

Tamil Tigers killed so many sinhala Civilians and hurt us for 30 years. this is our time to celebrate.

    Wednesday, 12 May 2010 08:30 AM

Use the money to develop the country. We don't need to celebrate. There are still people without homes.

    Wednesday, 12 May 2010 07:19 AM

Lets hope there wont be a tsunami on that day.

    Wednesday, 12 May 2010 07:20 AM

Can someone tell, where the real war hero will be when the victory day is celebrated. Would it be only the cardboard political heros who will be parading?

    Wednesday, 12 May 2010 07:39 AM

From your point of view there may be only one hero. But for me and for the most of Sri Lankans there are lot of War heros. Except one every other can participate. So, because of one, DO WE NEED TO BOYCOTT OR EVEN STOP CELEBRATING FIRST ANYVERSARY OF THIS GREAT VICTORY. Remember SF has done just the part he was asigned. Not any other things. International presure (Loan restrictions, human rights issues), allocating funds, man power, get all Sri Lankans aline for the war and allocating suitable people at suitable places at right time by the government.

    Wednesday, 12 May 2010 07:53 AM

You cannot seperate the ONE man whose war strategy led to victory! What's the point celebrating without this VERY man???

    Wednesday, 12 May 2010 08:14 AM

we kill our own people and then celebrate! This day should be National Reconciliation Day, not Victory Day!

    Wednesday, 12 May 2010 08:19 AM

friends don't waste time on arguing about the real war hero. but just think for your self's whether. what was done to SF is fair

    Wednesday, 12 May 2010 08:27 AM

Well said Ran Banda. This is what the politians need just to keep their popularity high. It was the sons of the poor who died as soldiers.

    Wednesday, 12 May 2010 08:30 AM

i agree with ran banda. just think about the poor civilians died on that day. this is not a day to celebrate. whoever it is its our own people's blood. this celebration is going to hurt many tamils.

    Wednesday, 12 May 2010 07:19 AM

There is no joy at all! Every joy has become sour!

    Wednesday, 12 May 2010 08:56 AM

The Govt should get over celebrations mania as parades of this nature involves lot of peoples money and such expenditure cannot be justified in terms of the present economic status of the Country. Besides we are going to hold this just after 3 months from Independence Day celebrations where we have remembered and duly honoured the war heroes with special emphasis on last years victory over LTTE. The Govt should not overplay war victory and insult the inteligent voters of this Country. Percy

    Wednesday, 12 May 2010 09:09 AM

    Well said, Calistus.

    Wednesday, 12 May 2010 09:09 AM

The war is over, yet there are still restrictions as to where we can travel. Nothing has changed

    Wednesday, 12 May 2010 09:33 AM

Countries celebrate VICTORY over winning a War against another country, this celebration is against defeating the aspirations of ordinary Tamils wanting peace. LTTE is vanquished, so no need to celebrate

    Wednesday, 12 May 2010 09:41 AM

We had enough celebration during the past few months. Now the time for development not for celebrations.

    Wednesday, 12 May 2010 09:42 AM

I sincerely hope the government re-thinks this so called celebration. Leave SF aside, leave MR aside. Think of the feelings of the Tamil people.

    Wednesday, 12 May 2010 10:07 AM

Yes you are right, we don't celebrate by killing our citizens.
