A man, believed to be a supporter of LTTE, set fire to himself on Thursday morning in front of the UN's Human Rights Committee building in Geneva, Swiss media said quoting Swiss police.

There was a photo of a soldier next to him with a symbol of the Tamil Tigers, the armed group in Sri Lanka, as well as documents on self-immolation of Tibetans in Tibet.

The man was first taken to hospital in Geneva and later by helicopter to Lousanne's University Hospital, but died before he could be identified.

I read the comments and amazed how gleefully we cheer-on death! But then, I do relate to the simmering anger of the past that motivates these comments. Nevertheless, I think, we should take a moment to reflect on the desperation and hopelessness that drives a person to self-immolate. I know many will dismiss this as an act of stupidity. But remember, there must be at least one person who must be grief stricken because of this death.

Also, there is a higher power watching over us. All religions warn us of retribution. Some time it is swift. Most times it is slow. But it will come alright!

That said, surprised that Daily Mirror found it acceptable to post these virulent comments. Now that is rich, ha!
