A A A

A protest was organized by more than hundred Jaffna fishing families in front of the Indian consulate this morning against Indian fishermen straying into Sri Lankan fishing waters. The protestors were demanding that the Indian fishermen stop robbing their resources and driving them to starvation.

The protest was a silent protest with participants covering their eye and mouths with black ribbon. (Parameshwaren - Jaffna)

    malkanthi Monday, 21 February 2011 10:34 AM

Our politico and TN politico both show bankruptcy!

Calistus Jayatilleke Monday, 21 February 2011 11:00 AM

One can only sympathise with the poor Jaffna fishermen because they are just pawns in this political game where they end up as losers without any help from either the Sri Lankan government or the judicial system as everything is dictated to by the Big Brother India.

    malkanthi Monday, 21 February 2011 11:14 AM

Our fishing families do not have problem with Indian fishermen, by now we know who is behind. Why not WW start fasting front of Indian High Commission??

    channa Monday, 21 February 2011 02:04 PM

    kaputakukula Monday, 21 February 2011 09:58 AM

Narrow minded people think shalow. Use sense (if u have any) before hatred. A clever brain can understand that this protetest is definitely organized by the government.

    Kamal Monday, 21 February 2011 04:05 PM

    Are you from Jaffna ?

    S.Sriranjan Monday, 21 February 2011 04:42 PM

Wait JVP will tell something about this.

hindu ram Monday, 21 February 2011 07:25 PM

how come the jaffna fishermen protest against india while their fishing is not allowed by sl navy ? this is a total drama by sri lanka govt and the sl navy by bringing sinhalese fisherman from the south.

    singho Monday, 21 February 2011 07:43 PM

can anyone prove that they are not sinhalese fisherman from the south ?? shame for govt to use citizens to gain political advantage and put the blame on innocent civilians.

Dr Ray Monday, 21 February 2011 08:51 PM

Its Time we sent our Jaffna Fishermen to Capture the Somali Pirets and Hand Them Over / Give them to our Navy. Somalie Pirets Deserve this. .....

Kalani Raja Monday, 21 February 2011 11:58 PM

Just a protest won't do any good. Is anyone prepared to go for a hunger strike? Then please contact Mr Weerawansa for some tips.

    RAMBO Tuesday, 22 February 2011 02:41 AM

Dinesh , stop trying to make lame excuses to blame the government. We are not the only country in this world who has problems and people who are protesting.

    Roshan Tuesday, 22 February 2011 03:50 AM

Whether it is organised by the govt or anybody, the protest is justified. How can the Indians fish in our water?

truth hurts Tuesday, 22 February 2011 05:03 AM

    lankaputha Monday, 21 February 2011 06:13 AM

I am happy now that people in Jaffna are in the correct path. They now have the freedom to protest and demand. They are now involved in international matters too.. Long live our war heros.
