The Police Women and Children’s Bureau is to submit a list of pornographic websites to the Juvenile Court in Battaramulla on Monday as part of the initial step to ban access to porn websites via mobile phones.

The Juvenile Court had yesterday ordered the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) to ban access to porn websites via mobile phones following a case filed by the Police Women and Children’s Bureau.

Sources at the Bureau told Daily Mirror online that as part of the initial step, a list of websites to be banned will be handed over to the Juvenile Court on Monday.

Meanwhile when contacted by Daily Mirror online, TRC Director General Anusha Palpita said a proposal has been made to use filters in order to restrict the access to porn websites via mobile phones.

However he cautioned that the filtering process could affect the speed of internet access on mobiles. (Daily Mirror online)

Typical idiots who do not know the reality of porn websites. Their are almost 100 sites mushrooming everyday and that cannot be controlled. Clamping on todays websites is different to the sites that mushroom tomorrow. Only yakko's of Sri Lanka will have the brains to activate this type of solutions.

There are lot of anchor free softwares in Internet... It's very hard to block those sites. Unless they introduce a limited package for kids...

    B.B. Marasingha Thursday, 19 August 2010 09:58 AM

Why should parents in the 1st place purchase sophisticated mobiles for kids? If the phone is provided to the kid to be contacted in an emergency, then there are plenty of basic units by popular brands available in the market. Parents should be responsible. I'd say the courts should bill the parents & warn 'em of subsequent consequences.

    MagodisThuma Thursday, 19 August 2010 03:40 PM

They should've consulted ICTA's help for this case. Without knowing the technology court order will be useless.
