In an attempt to curb jay walking the police will carry out an awareness program in Colombo today to ensure pedestrians cross the road only at zebra crossings and overhead bridges.

The police media unit says the program will be conducted in the Colombo district throughout the day noting that jay walking has resulted in a rise in accidents.

A similar program was carried out in Kandy recently and jay walkers were also fined. (Daily Mirror online)

That place is crazy.....
People are walking all over galle road! main reason for Traffic jams!

It has worked perfectly in Kandy. That also shows Srilankans need some-form of a fine/punishment to discipline them.

Take a look at the Maradana junction at Peak hours.People including pregnant women cross the road creating unwanted traffic congestion totally ignoring the overhead bridge.Police usually are present but seem to be blind or unconcerned.
