It is always better to have the wooden knife sharpener (kethi kanda) than the blacksmith shop (kammala) which far away
Marvan got the batting coach because of family connection. HIs whole career, he was driving with one hand, how can the media say he is the perfect technical batsman. We need a foreign coach to prepare mentally and physically. With the current mess-up at SLC, which foreign coach wants to face this drama. As soon they get the opportunity, they run away.
this is one of the most idiotic comments I've seen in a while.
Your knowledge of batting technique is probably limited to book cricket. I can't believe your audacity to think you know better than the likes of Geoff Boycott, Sunil Gavaskar, Richie Benaud, and Ian Chappel regarding batting technique. Joker

Have you ever played cricket.....? Driving with one hand (top hand) accurately is the most difficult thing do ! You need loads of confidence to try this feat at top level......

badre Friday, 25 April 2014 10:34 AM

At least finally SLC at right direction now. This will definitely boost moral if the cricket in SL

Dutchy Friday, 25 April 2014 12:22 PM

As you know, he is not the perfect man to coach our team. He was not a very good batsman.

Mohamed Azmi Friday, 25 April 2014 01:26 PM

Congratulation !!! Good Luck Marvan

BIL of SEC gets the job. Not a surprise.

prem Friday, 25 April 2014 10:08 AM

Mavan showed his ability to batting,Damith go threw past Cricket history and study there for he don't need any support to come this possition.

Cobra Saturday, 26 April 2014 01:49 AM

About time too. Congratulations Marvan. We are sure our team will reach new heights under your tutelage and go on to win the Champions and WC trophies. Best of luck to you and the boys!

Richie Saturday, 26 April 2014 02:22 AM

Dutchy, its always better to have one of our ex-cricketer as coach. What have the foreign coaches contributed the interest of SL cricket? They are greedy for money and they know that being white skins they can do whatever they want with our good-for nothing SL officials. Ashley shud be shown the door. Marvan knows the players and he will build good rapport with them. My advice to him to listen to the senior players and groom the youngsters. Good luck, Marvan, prove your worth.

Kiris Baba Amaray Saturday, 26 April 2014 02:44 AM

Right choice at last, but for how long?

Common Sense Saturday, 26 April 2014 02:44 AM

If anybody thinks that Paul Farbrace had been able to change the mentality and fitness of the Sri Lankan cricketers during the last 3 to 4 months, it is a misconception. He is not deserved to get any credit for our team's performance.

Main reason is the right decisions taken at the right time in team selections.

Marvan is one of the technically correct batsman in Sri Lanka and a very good gentleman in all aspects of the life. Congrats! Marvan, you do your job without giving a hearing to any pandits.

nalaka Saturday, 26 April 2014 02:46 AM

Are you from Angoda? Marvan was one of the best batsmen produced by Sri Lanka. You idiot Pl checkout his batting record and write.

Frederick Saturday, 26 April 2014 02:48 AM

Iam sure he has the technical skills .Better than running after foreign coaches who don't seem to stay there.
Now that you have appointed him hope the cricket board and public will get behind him and support him in good times and bad. Can't win every time.

You don't need to play international cricket to see a batsman's downfall. I have played in a top Colombo school and two of my teammates played for Sri Lanka. One is world class cricketer who played in Sri Lanka's first world cup winning team.

Alex Saturday, 26 April 2014 06:37 AM

Good comment. Agree.

Janaka Friday, 25 April 2014 08:57 AM

Let's see whether he will be able to prove that the foreign coach syndrome was a waste of money.

Fair N Square Friday, 25 April 2014 09:10 AM

He was a good captain and a PR person, he was not given his due place until now.. he may not perform over night ..let him settle down and make the necessary changes... to bolster and gel with the players... this move also saves us the foreign exchange.. Also slc should pay him what the last coach was paid... irrespective of whether he is local or not... isnt he also the brother in law of the Ranatunga's?

damitha Friday, 25 April 2014 09:26 AM

When our boys win trophies others get credit & thus get their market price increased. Good lesson for SLC.
BEST WISHES MARVON!

If possible appoint Thilan Samaraweera as the batting coach.

dickey bird Friday, 25 April 2014 10:01 AM

It was the performance of our cricketers that catapulted a 2nd XI coach from Yorkshire who was earlier kicked out of Kent to limelight.
Untill then, the English never took notice of him.

Paul Farbrace has any gratitude, he must be ever grateful to the SLC and the Cricketers who propelled him to the limelight in a short period of (04) moths.

lets wait and see when he is ever going to enjoy a open roof top bus ride through town with throng of supporters lined up along the street to a heroes welcome????????
MONEY CAN'T BUY SUCH MOMENTS.............

We await the sri Lankans to turn the screws on the englishmen.
