Thousands of Tamil refugees from Sri Lanka are preparing to risk the 5000km voyage to Australian waters as soon as weather conditions improve, the Daily Telegraph reported.

Senior naval sources claim people smugglers will bypass the traditional route through Indonesia or Malaysia in favour of the riskier route direct to Christmas Island.

It is understood senior Sri Lankan naval figures directly warned their Australian counterparts of the looming humanitarian crisis during high-level talks a month ago.

Senior navy sources said they were told several refugee boats set sail for Australia from northeastern Sri Lanka last year but had not been heard from since, the the Daily Telegraph said.

No doubt these are economic refugees. Otherwise do u think they will there rights there? Also they want to increase the number of diaspora there in order to make misserable the life of poor Srilankan Tamils living here.

Tamil diaspora should provide them with good quality boats for the trip. They should form a Tamil consulate/high commision on sea for Tamil assylum seekers, respect their human rights and provide tamils using leaky boats with better boats .

No good news for the TNA as this will reduce their vote base in the future. Good news for the peace seeking Srilankans of all communities for getiing rid of a few thousand trouble makers. Australia, you sure have enough space in your country for an Eelam.

SL Govt not only make life difficult for Tamils to live here happily but also blow the whisle to warn Australia not to let them in.

How come you people in Srilanka call them "tamil refugees". Are they not your citizens?? If you people give them their due rights, then they will not leave.
They have no means to exist in Srilanka, thats why they leave.
No wonder why in thousands they like to take the risk.

Again these people are ruining the reputation of all law abiding Sri Lankans who use legal means to migrate. Now any Sri Lankan who enters Australia will be considered a refugee or criminal. The Navy should be more vigilant and stop these from happening.

This is organize by LTTE as a part of their propaganda. Same thing was don by Prabhakaran. He chased people from north to to other countries and ask for asylum to show the world that there is a problem. This is a man made disaster. Need the support of other countries to control this crime.
