many news articles seems contradictory these days. on the 18th it was reported "no new army chief appointed" on the 20th there is one! One news article says "port city stopped" next day "its going ahead" .... i thought news articles was verified before publication. Perhaps I am wrong.

Major General Crishantha De Silva is the senior most officer according to the Army seniority list. So no argument with this decision. Good job Mr. president.

    Willard Friday, 20 February 2015 04:31 PM

Gents why do we need commanders now. We have already surrendered and the enemy will very soon taken them to Hague. Have not got enough head count?

Lokka,Since when any citizen has the right to question? After Mr Maithripala Sirisena was appointed President? No citizen dared to question any appointment/decision that Mr Mahinda Rajapakse made .......What is sauce for the goose - is sauce for the gander ....

    Waco Saturday, 21 February 2015 12:49 AM

It was not practically possible to published the nams of all officers in the Battle Front. Mainly the district commanders names were made known.

    Waco Saturday, 21 February 2015 12:53 AM

According to the army customs "No Smiling or Clapping ".

    Dee Saturday, 21 February 2015 07:10 PM

Some say never heard of him. So we kept our moths shut when officers whoran ways aabroad, came back and took credit for finishing the war? So dumb we are!

Is he not Gota s man?

    Denny Friday, 20 February 2015 07:02 PM

Lokka, question when there is a purpose in questioning. You are saying he has the right to appoint any person he pleases as Army Commander and in your next breath question his choice. Why? Have you served in the Sri Lankan army and do you know Crishantha de Silva better than the President. You sound like the dog that barks at the moon. No purpose but wasting your breath.

    kenneth Friday, 20 February 2015 07:09 PM

    Effective date is 22nd.

    Mick Friday, 20 February 2015 02:45 PM

Are they playing hell with the country? Last week someone else was appointed as army commander and now cancelled that a new one emerged, also in the recent budget so many amendments....

Tilak Ratnasekera Sunday, 22 February 2015 09:15 PM

Just one request from the new Commander. Do not be a pawn of any politician even if it happens to be your CIC. Please maintain the high standards of the Srilanka Army which is now known the world over as an Anti-terrorist Army from a Democratic Country. All the very Best. Tilak R

    K. C. John Saturday, 21 February 2015 06:13 AM

No populist dramas like former actors!

    Prince Friday, 20 February 2015 02:54 PM

Hope this is the correct appointment. All the best.

Chris Boy Saturday, 21 February 2015 06:23 AM

This is the whole problem, so you say let them do anything they want and we keep quiet after casting our votes. It is people like you who allowed a dictator in SL. We must question them always

Lakshan DeSilva Friday, 20 February 2015 03:00 PM

Maitripala Sirisena was the elected President of Sri Lanka. He may choose who will be the Army commander at his desceretion as the Commander in Chief of the Armed forces. No one can comment on that writ.

    CHICK Friday, 20 February 2015 03:04 PM

No! Nothing like that happened check your facts first please

    Lokka Friday, 20 February 2015 03:08 PM

You are wrong Lakshan. Any citizen has the right to question.

    Lima Friday, 20 February 2015 03:16 PM

NOW CHECK MATE DAYA RATNAYAKE FOR HIS INVOLVMENTS WITH PUBLIC FUNDS AND SPONSORING MAHINDA ELECTION CAMPAIGN , HOW CAN HE DO THAT , PUT HIM IN JAIL

    Dan Friday, 20 February 2015 03:21 PM

Your point is absolutely correct...but, would that be the same when MR selected Army Commander during his time?

    Bala Saturday, 21 February 2015 08:07 AM

The media must be more responsible when reporting appointments to high posts as undue embarrassment is caused to good people. In this case Maj Gen K De Silva and Maj Gen Jagath Rambukpotha were both recommended for the post of Army Commander by the authorities. Both are very good officers. H E the President made his own decision as H E is the Commander in Chief. This is the correct procedure. Unfortunately some jumped the gun.
