Journalist Susil Kindelpitiya was granted bail by the Colombo High Court today after the lady who lodged a complainant against him said her statement given to the Court by the police was incorrect.

The lady said in an affidavit to the Court that she never saw a weapon in Kindelpitiya’s vehicle at the time of his arrest.

The UNP Colombo district candidate was arrested by the police over a complaint lodged by a woman alleging abuse and harassment. The former Sirasa News Director was arrested after the lady complained that he had abused her and later threatened her with a weapon.

You are absolutely correct, but you have forgotten that this is the miracle of Asia. These things happen only in SL, nowhere else in the world.

This is a blatant violation of the law enforcement. If our leaders want the ordinary citizenry to respect the police and abide by the rule of law, then they should first set an example by making the police free and fair.

The way the police is behaving, particularly during elections, the day will not be far off when the police will get the same treatment a vehicle tyre will get from a dog.

Any female doesn't just become a lady. A lady is known by her character and behaviour. This woman cannot be a lady if she had lied. Also, if she was not threatened, but abused, then it must have been with her will - shame on all women.

    Friday, 11 June 2010 09:32 AM

Probably the most bizarre case for the year?'...... how funny, everybody wasted time including the judge. Because it is all in the game of politics.

This story is getting interesting now.If this lady(as you call her) states that she was not threatened with a weapon and that she didnt see a weapon in the car. Then whose weapon did the police send to the govt analyst to check for finger prints & identification. Is this out of a Alfred Hitchcock movie or is it from an Agatha Christie book.Good substance for for a novel

How does the police make a mistake like this ? The poor soul spent 2 months in remand only to be released. The country is going to the dogs slowly but surely.

My heartiest congratulations to the 2/3 rd's of the country !!
