DMK president M. Karunanidhi Wednesday condemned Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa for ruling out greater political autonomy for Tamils in the island nation, and urged the Indian government to wake up to reality.
In a statement referring to Rajapaksa's recent remarks ruling out greater political autonomy to Tamils in Sri Lanka, Karunanidhi urged the Indian government to protect the democratic rights of Tamils in Sri Lanka.
Charging Rajapaksa with not honouring commitments made to India and global organisations on the issue of autonomy to Tamils, Karunanidhi said Rajapaksa's latest announcement deserved to be condemned.
Karunanidhi, recalling various agreements signed by the Sri Lankan government, said it had become evident that the island nation had failed to honour written commitments.
In his 65th Independence Day speech, Rajapaksa, addressing the nation Monday, ruled out greater political autonomy for Tamils.
He said the division of people based on ethnicity was not practical.(IANS)
karunanidhi and Indai need to wake up to the reality that Sri Lanka is NOT an extended state of India.

The have all the rights other groups have, and no more. What are rights Tamils do not have and Sinhala and Muslims have? Try your tricks in Tamil Nadu. Take a toilet with you.

This old man is helping MR to strengthen himself by making these racial statements. In no country autonomy is granted based on ethnic grounds. In SL majority people hate devolution.

I am an Indian, I am sorry we have stupid people like Karunanidihi. But he is old and I hope he dies soon. In majority, We love you Sri Lankans. He has no idea what he is talking about. I hope Tamil Nadu has more sensible politicians focusing on abolition of caste system, development and internal issues rather than poking Sri Lankan politics. I agree Tamils should be given equal rights but separate state is an illegitimate demand. They shouldn't ask or get a separate state.

Nothing to worry about.

Afro-Americans in US, Indians in Canada, Asians in UK, Aborigines in Australia do not have allocated political power based on their ethinicity. MR has a vision to modernise the nation with all citizens having same rights, coexisting peacefully. The aging Karuna fellow thinks along ethnic lines, caste lines and no vision for his squalid Tamil Nadu state. Can you envisage US granting 15 states exclusive to Afro-Americans?

Impossible ! Karunanidhi Is Talking Shop. If You Divide This Country On The Ethnic Basis, Each Of The 9 Provinces Will Have It's Own Ethnicity. Then More Trouble. Now Everything Coming Back To Normal. Only Thing We Should Have Independent Judiciary. Citizen Must Have The Right To Live Anywhere, And Live In Harmony.

Sri Lankan Tamils are entitled to equal rights, just as much as the Sinhalese and Muslims. The government should not deny this.

You must try to find a separate country for your beloved Tamils in India.we have about 3 million Tamils in this small country whereas you have about 140 million Tamils in India.its very fair for you to have a separate country in the huge land of India.
ampare son Thursday, 07 February 2013 12:16 AM
sri lanka dont have separate land for sinhalese or tamil.
Luvis Fernando Thursday, 07 February 2013 12:41 AM
Karunanidhi ... We don't want to divide this island on grounds of ethnicity. We want peace and harmony.
bernardwijeyasingha Thursday, 07 February 2013 12:47 AM
Karunanidhi is the same man to resurrect TESO (Tamil Eelam Supporters org) so it would be in his nature to oppose President Rajapakse's stand of denying more autonomy to the Sri Lankan Tamils for if given it would be one step away from realizing Eelam.

FIRST BUILD SOME DECENT LAVATORIES AND TOILETS IN TAMIL NADU. AFTER THAT, YOU CAN CREATE YOUR HOMELAND: ALSO IN TAMIL NADU.
