Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya said today he did not mind being compared to a scarecrow made of straw by Democratic Party Leader Sarath Fonseka because a scarecrow had the power to at least scare aware birds.
Speaking at a post poll media briefing, he made this comment with reference to a remark by Mr. Fonseka that Mr. Deshapriya was a scarecrow made of straw.
“I am happy that he did not compare me to a dead body. A scarecrow is at least an object with some power. It can scare away birds,” he said. (Kelum Bandara and Sandun A. Jayasekara)
Sammy you are right. He shouts like a crow and his words have no meaning or value to the society.

Poor EC. Change the Law to make EC has same power as in India when he can direct Police & all Govt. Agencies by Law and take immediate action.

Fonseka used the wrong word - it should be "puppet" after the 18th Amendment. No independent election commission like India where after dissolution the their EC is in charge of police and the public service.

of course you will scare away opposition birds!
Sammy Thursday, 03 April 2014 09:25 AM
What Fonseka must have meant is, Deshapriya is a "scared crow" of the Govt. Not a scarecrow.
