The Colombo court today ordered the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) to provide adequate evidence against a group of suspects who were arrested and who are now out on bail over a clash between protestors and riot police in Hulsdorf recently.

The judge told the CCD if they failed to provide evidence against the suspects who are on bail they should be released. The suspects were arrested when they protested and assaulted the riot police while calling for the release of General Sarath Fonseka outside the court complex. (TFT)

Thank God. At least one organ (Judiciary) of the country is functioning properly.

How come their is no system for the judges to punish the law officers who arrest suspects without evidence (whims and fancies of the policemen) thus providng false information and misdirecting the courts.

    Thursday, 25 February 2010 07:12 AM

CCD will never provide evidence in this regard...............

This Judge has to be saluted for standing courageously for Justice. There is hope yet for SLanka an rule of law!

    Thursday, 25 February 2010 08:14 AM

Oh God, protect this judge from the repercussions.

    Thursday, 25 February 2010 08:35 AM

The police should be asked to find the thugs waving poles.I hope the magistrate orders the police to do so.

    Thursday, 25 February 2010 08:53 AM

Thank goodness for an independent Judge.

    Thursday, 25 February 2010 09:14 AM

I hope that this hon . Judge will be their for some timewithout retiring.

    Thursday, 25 February 2010 09:26 AM

yes spark. CCD officers must be punished for miss using their powers

    Thursday, 25 February 2010 09:34 AM

why cannot these officers be remanded for taking the courts for a ride...only reprmading is not adequate becasue the take this as a joke and repeate this style

    Thursday, 25 February 2010 09:52 AM

This will be another case of people being released without evidence - what happened to the persons who were not arrested but who were using thuggery on the scene - we saw on a TV show the JVP repr showed pictures of certain MPs/PC members who were on the scene near the statue of Premadasa, brandishing poles etc. Action shd be taken against the CCD, CID for wrongful detections.

There should be punishment for the police goons' who get their salaries from the public and harass the public.. and probably get a class on their priorities and duties..

further jail terms for misleading the courts..etc..

    Thursday, 25 February 2010 11:47 AM

Honorable Magistrate Sir/Madam, you should punish the people those who produce innocent people before the court without evidences. They are wasting valuable time of the court and the general public of this country.

    Thursday, 25 February 2010 12:49 PM

oh why cant srilanka have politicians like these fair and just judges???instead of all the uneducated rascals......

    Friday, 26 February 2010 05:37 AM

All leaders who protested within the court boundaries need punishment. When one can not make a noise, toot a horn near courts, how come JVP/UNP leaders & gangsters protest? Democracy need be bestowed on democratic people & not meant for animals.
