Two Sri Lankans made an appeal to Australia's High Court today to reconsider them for asylum and challenged as unfair the handling of their refugee claims offshore, the Australian media reported.

According to reports the two Tamils were detained in October 2009 at Christmas Island and now face deportation back to Sri Lanka.

They fear persecution in Sri Lanka because of their alleged support to the LTTE. In Sydney, about 40 people gathered outside court offices to support the Tamils' case, as well as others facing deportation to Iraq.

Pathetic situation! Winning the war has not at all addressed the hearts and minds of minorities.

People do anything to migrate to the west under false pretensions. Selling the good name of their country or even mother. That is what is pathetic. Hearts and minds of selfish, brain washed people cannot be won.

By UN law you have to ask the 'Asylum' from the 1st country they set foot on. When they arrive in Australia; they have at least by then have set foot on two or more countries. So their intentions ain't 'Asylum' related.

Based on your theory, none of us will stand right. A convict will have no hope at all. You are pessimistic and that is a pathetic state of mind.

Dear David, No one will sell the good (?) name a country and want to migrate if the country will not let them have jobs or to live happily and peacefully

For arguments sake,wWho fears prosecution in Sri Lanka when KP is treated like a prince! Even if we set aside KP humour, many LTTEers are rehabilitated and entering the society slowly.

The Minorities must also forget hatred and cooperate as equal citizens of one Nation.

    NISSANKA Tuesday, 24 August 2010 10:31 AM

If some one is seeking asylum, hey should be prepared to go to any country. But these opportunists want to go to a rich western country only, and don't give two hoots about giving a bad name to Sri Lanka. They are like vultures.

Are you a majority? Do you really understand all these issues or are you just spitting words?
