A tense situation prevailed outside the Prime Minister’s office at Flower Road when the police tried to prevent Sihala Ravaya members from forcibly entering the Prime Minister’s office a short while ago.

One protesting monk was reportedly injured and admitted to hospital.

Some members of the ‘Sihala Ravaya’ organisation began a protest opposite the Prime Minister’s office demanding that he resigns.

The anti-riot squad had also been deployed to bring the situation under control

In name of religion.. people do what ever they and get away. This applies to all communities and religions world over. Hence, proper education is the only way out to understand what is right & wrong preached by many & who is behind their agenda

Each time I read of Sri Lankan news I get the urge to PUKE its so disgusting. I hope this is a eye opener for the rest of the corrupted clan who are in to nefarious activities and they think just because of their power they can over come everything I guess the example must be set right from the top. The entire cabinet Ministers are all waste of space in the lovely island their pedigree says the story there is NO ONE who is professional and clean. This time it is these orange clan idiots next time I guess the whole country will take matters to their own hands an ensure their is a HAPPY ENDING NEEEEEEEEEE HO

Since the letter went from his office, the Prime Minister should resign, that's true. That's just the correct thing to do, whether he is directly involved or not does not matter. However, we cannot allow thugs and criminals hiding under robes to take the law into their hands. These are not buddhist monks - they are criminals in robes. The law should be enforced against these extremist monks/criminals.

It seems like the top man is encouraging this.

    Samare Wednesday, 08 January 2014 11:09 AM

When even minor MPs deal in drugs and other criminal activities itis not surprising that the premier felt that he has to outdo the young guns.

    Jehan Thursday, 09 January 2014 09:33 AM

Why on earth are any of these clowns deserving of the title 'venerable' it is an absurd concept perpetuated by ignorance and fear. The whole idea of being a monk is the personal journey one undertakes to conquer oneself by eschewing the materialism of life. It is only in Sri Lanka that such people are somehow elevated as being somehow 'better' than everyone else and deserving of venerance

Carefully scripted drama for the cameras. Can't believe monks can resort to this kind of behavior. Its about time they returned to their temples and meditated on their disgraceful conduct.

Ram Perera Wednesday, 08 January 2014 08:11 AM

It is surprising that the government is allowing this kind of protest without nipping it in the bud. Where ever Sinhala Ravaya or BBS go they get their way through to their destination as the Police act soft on them
