Wanted suspect arrested with hand grenade

A 30-year-old man, who is the main suspect wanted over an assault in Grandpass, had been arrested with a hand grenade at Mahawatta in Grandpass yesterday.

Investigation revealed that the suspect is a close associate of the imprisoned drug trafficker Tholkamudalige Chamara Sampath Rodrigo.

The suspect, a resident of Henamulla was arrested while roaming at the Mahawatta cemetery grounds.

Police said he was wanted over a recent assault incident in Grandpass where three individuals were critically injured.

He would be produced in the Hulftsdorp Magistrate’s Court.
