President Maithripala Sirisena will attend the 70th UNP convention which will begin at 9.30 am today (10) at Campbell Park Colombo, under the leadership of party leader Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
A resolution on the future economic plan of the government will be presented by the Prime Minister at the convention. (Diana Udayangani)

What's the point in having two parties. Why can't they join the two and become one. Looks like their policies are now similar so no conflict there. Then they both can rule until they die.

In UK the last parliament was the Conservatives with Liberal Party. But in the last election they contested seperately. Since the UNP ans SLFP have only minor differring vews - it is good for the country when they rule together and balance out little differences.
